The Washington City Council has approved a contractor to remove asbestos from three city‑owned buildings.  Environmental Management Services of Iowa, Inc. (EMSI) based in Dubuque has been hired to do the asbestos removal from the buildings located at 207, 209 and 211 South Marion Avenue.  The demolition of the buildings will be discussed at a future council meeting.

The Council also discussed what to do with the land owned on the northwest side of Washington.

Discussion to sell the “School 90” took place, however members from the city’s Wellness Committee recommended using approximately 12 acres of that land for a soccer and wellness park.

The Council did not take any action regarding the 90 acres after asking for more information from the Wellness Committee which will be presented at the October 5th meeting.
