The city of Kalona has completed another round of preparations for a new flood map of the northern Washington County area.  City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says Larry Weber with the Iowa Flood Center gave a presentation on his findings in terms of 2D mapping of the area.

He says that mapping is a survey of the land in and around Kalona that will help draw up a new flood plan for the area.

Schlabaugh says with this plan in place, the city must now wait for FEMA to begin sending representatives to city council meetings to discuss matters and moving the project forward.  He says budget issues have caused the federal organization to hold off on discussions for now.
