Main Street Washington is looking for a worthy project in its downtown district.  Amy Vetter with Main Street says some unused funds from other Main Street Challenge Grant rounds has allowed them to look for another way to improve downtown.  She says the projects need to range in price from 15 to 50 thousand dollars.

Vetter notes a 100% dollar for dollar match must be met as well as no other federal and state program awards can be used to fulfill the match.  One page project summaries are due by next Friday.

Projects that will be considered can include rehabilitation and/or restoration of privately held properties, rehabilitation and/or restoration of historically significant public buildings, open-air performance structures on public property, new in-fill construction, contiguous properties, or one or more rehabilitation/restoration phases of a large building project.

Building plans will be reviewed for design appropriateness, architectural significance, impact on the community, and innovation and utilization of the Iowa Green Streets Criteria. For additional information regarding the Main Street Challenge Grant please contact Amy at 653-3918.
