A power outage affected parts of the KCII listening area yesterday morning. According to Alliant Energy spokesman Justin Foss, routine work was being performed by crews at a sub station when a piece of equipment failed.
During the height of the outage, just under 2000 customers were without power in portions of Washington County including the western part of Washington, plus the cities of Keota, Richland and Richmond.
KCII was able to stay on the air with the use of emergency backup generators. The initial outage occurred around 8:50 and power was restored in about half an hour.
