The Washington Police Department in conjunction with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa State Patrol are in the process of conducting seat belt checks. Washington Police Chief Greg Goodman says that starting soon law enforcement officials will be on the roadways making sure motorists are buckled up.
He says they will have people positioned to look for those not buckled up and will inform officers of the violator who will issue the citation.
Chief Goodman says wearing seat belts is one of the most important messages that can be taken to ensure the safety of people in vehicles.
