The cross country season wrapped up with the state meet on Saturday, and one area team and several area athletes were competing. First on the boys side in Class 1A, the Highland Huskies as a team finished 11th, Matt Eden was the Huskies top finisher coming in 30th and Evan Mahler finished 37th. Keota’s Trevor Draisey came in 19th, and IMS’ Jesse Shetler missed beating a personal best by seven seconds and finished 57th.

On the boys’ side in 2A, Mid-Prairie’s Peter Schwartz ended up 27th.

In 3A, Southeast Conference school Fort Madison qualified on the boys side they finished 10th as a team.

On the girls side, in Class 1A, the Pekin girls won the team title. Individually, Lone Tree’s Ella Feldman finished 27th. IMS’ Renee Buckwalter ran a personal best going 15:53 to finish 36th. Her time ties the second fastest time by an IMS girl at the state meet.

In Class 2A, Mid-Prairie’s Sofia Chmaruk came in 13th and teammate Mallory McArtor was not far behind her in 18th.
