The Washington Demon volleyball team is moving on to to the next round in the postseason. The Demons opened regional play hosting Fort Madison, a team they split with in the regular season. Last night the Demons won a tight first game 27-25. Fort Madison took the second game 25-17, but Washington won the third game big going on an eight point run and a couple of five point runs to win 25-9. In the fourth game Washington kept it to a five to eight point lead on their way to a 25-18 win which gave the Demons the match. Head Coach Jeff Spenner felt they were able to put some runs together which he attributes to their strong serving. For Washington:
Johannah Vittetoe 12 kills 6 blocks
Lauren Vittetoe 11 kills 3 blocks 13-13 serving
Erin Webber 9 kills 4 blocks
Sydney Greiner 5 kills 20-21 serving
Sam Ellingson 5 kills 12 assists
Lauren Kimball 14 assists
Tara Zwer 19 digs

It is the first Demon postseason win since 2000. Now the Demons move on to Tiffin where they will face seventh ranked Maquoketa. Maquoketa won in four over Clear Creek-Amana after dropping the first game. Spenner says Maquoketa is a good program and ranked but in the postseason rankings and records don’t mean much. The Demons again will play Maquoketa in Tiffin on Thursday.
