The Demons football team was challenged by their coach to match sixth ranked Solon’s effort and they nearly handed the Spartans their first district loss. In a game heard on KCII, Solon scored first on their second drive. It was a lengthy drive capped off by a quarterback run with just over 2-minutes left in the first quarter.

The Demons got a pick six from Brock Kimball to get on the board and it was 7-6 after a missed extra point. Another quarterback touchdown run from Solon made it 14-6. The Demons answered as inside the Solon 30, quarterback Jake Redlinger escaped a sack, rolled right and hooked up with Colin Steele for a touchdown and the two point attempt was no good.

It was 21-12 at halftime and it would stay on that score until midway through the fourth. The Demons started at their own five and had a key third down conversion on a pass to Steele to put the ball at the Demon 21 and that sparked a touchdown drive that was capped off by a Parker Turner run, making it 21-19.

Late in the fourth, the Demons forced a Solon punt and pinned back at their five, the Spartans came up with an interception and were able to ice the game. Solon wins 21-19. With the loss the Demons fall to 4-4 and are 3-3 in the district. Solon is now 7-1 and 6-0 in district play they will play another district unbeaten in Grinnell for the District 6 title.
