Mid-Prairie scored a victory over rival Sigourney-Keota on the Cobras Senior Night Friday evening 38-7. In a game heard on KCIIRadio.com, playoff implications loomed large. A Mid-Prairie win would result in the Golden Hawks clinching a playoff spot while an SK win would help the Savage Cobras take a big step toward the postseason. Mid-Prairie jumped out early after the two teams traded punts. The Golden Hawks started their second drive following a 58 yard Jaemin Powell punt return and four plays later Steven Jones found the endzone from 11 yards out, Jones would also score the next time the Golden Hawks had possession doubling the Mid-Prairie lead to 14-0 on a 63 yard scamper. A turning point right before halftime saw SK miss a key scoring opportunity. After both teams traded turnovers and with the Cobras to receive the ball to start half number two, SK had time run out in the first half as quarterback Luke Lyle was tackled in bounds at the Mid-Prairie three yard line with no SK timeouts remaining.
The defenses locked down in the 3rd quarter not allowing either team to find the scoreboard. Last night Mid-Prairie reversed their 4th quarter luck from a week ago, starting with an Austin Errthum 37 yard field goal, tying his career long, to put Mid-Prairie on top three scores 24-7. From their the Golden Hawks poured it on, following a Kyle Mullet INT Powell crashed in from one yard out to make it 31-7 Golden Hawks with six minutes to go. The Mid-Prairie defense would force one final turnover and score it as Reid Miller stripped Wackter and Dylan Wertz raced 44 yards with the fumble for a touchdown.
