The Kalona City Council has approved several capital improvement projects including renovations to the city’s slow pitch  softball fields and campgrounds. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says a little under twenty projects or purchases were approved by the council. One of the projects is being funded with a matching grant from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation to renovate their slow pitch softball fields.

He says they’re going to work on their dugouts, do some landscaping, and improve the fencing. The cost of the project is around 10-thousand dollars.

The city is also using money from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation to make improvements as well as add eleven new spots to their campgrounds. They’ll add some electrical and water hook ups and improve signage in the area.

Finally, Schlabaugh says the city is purchasing two vehicles. A new truck that among other things will give them three trucks available to plow during the winter. The other is a new backhoe, which is used in various ways including snow removal to working on water main breaks.
