The Kalona City council will be presented an ordinance to allow golf carts on the street in city limits. Research on the idea was done because of increased desire to operate the vehicles on city streets.

City Administrator Ryan Slaubaugh says that the ordinance will allow golf carts to be operated on the streets but there will be stipulations as abiding by state law, city mandates including a $25 permit to make sure that the carts are deemed roadworthy and that the city can validate ownership and proof of liability insurance.

Currently golf carts are only allowed to be operated on Kalona City streets during special events. The Council will have the first formal reading of the ordinance within the next few meetings.
