Big plays and a big first half got Mid-Prairie back on the winning track last night in a 40-0 district six blowout over West Burlington Notre Dame. In a game heard on KCII, the Golden Hawk defense held the West Burlington offense to just 146 total yards while the offense feasted on big plays. Following an Austin Errthum 36 yard field goal Mid-Prairie made it 10-0 on a Steven Jones 42 yard touchdown run. The Golden Hawks blew things open in the 2nd quarter with three more scores including a Jaemin Powell to Dylan Wertz 11 yard touchdown connection, a Powell 55 yard touchdown run and an Errthum 37 yard field goal. Mid-Prairie extended the lead in the second half without the benefit of an offensive touchdown as Powell returned the opening kickoff 89 for a score and the defense got in on the act when Dylan Wertz recovered a Falcon fumble and raced 23 yards for a touchdown. Mid-Prairie was led by Powell and Jones on the ground, each had over 100 and a score, Powell was 4 of 6 through the air for 59 yards.
