The new Kalona Parks and Rec Director has some goals growing some existing programs as well as focusing on what is available to area youth. Jake Anderson was recently hired by the city. He is from Harlan and graduated from the University of Iowa in May.
One of Anderson’s biggest goals is offering more for the youth in the community such as having some activities geared more towards them and having more interactive playground equipment rather than just the typical slides and swings.
As for the adults, he would like to work on growing their summer slow pitch softball program and include some of the surrounding communities. He’d also like to see some fitness classes offered at the Community Center instead of just having equipment people can use.
