Christmas Tree Saftey

Many of you have started your Christmas Season already. You might have already put your tree up, but here are some safety tips for keeping your home and tree safe this year. Larry Cuddeback of Cuddeback Farms says Christmas trees need plenty of water to keep from drying out. Most people know that, but what you may not know is that you should cut the stem of your tree another inch once you get it home. Sap could have collected at the bottom of the tree when it was originally cut. This keeps the tree from absorbing water. Cuddeback says a tree should absorb about a gallon of water if it is taking in the proper amount. He says if your tree is getting dry, you should take it out of the house and not turn the lights on just to be safe. He says trees that weren’t cut fresh, like those you would buy at a store, usually have paint and a sealant sprayed on them to keep them from drying out.
