Laws limiting the amount of cold medicine purchased have blocked nearly 21,000 illegal sales since they have been put in place. The cold medicine can be used to manufacture methamphetamines. Eric Weber of the Washington County Drug Task Force says the limit is enough that people could buy enough in a month to last them for the whole year. The monthly limit is what has stopped the 21,000 illegal sales. Weber says meth producers still find ways to get it, but the laws help them find out who is purchasing enough cold medicine to manufacture meth. He says that is how they’ve started some of their investigations, but that is the easy part. The hard part is finding when and where the methamphetamine is being produced.
