Today is the deadline for area FFA and 4-H members to have a chance at participating in the share-a-calf program.  This program is sponsored by the Washington County Cattlemen’s Association.  Amy Green, 4-H Youth Coordinator says this provides a chance for youth who do not have a good connection to the cattle industry and gives them a chance to obtain a calf locally.

She says after the youth apply, they will need to make sure they have the right kind of facilities, understand the feeding schedule and can take the calf home in December.

The calf would then be raised through the winter, and the money from the calf will be given to the Cattlemen after it has been sold.

Applications are due today, and to find out more information about the Share a Calf program, contact the Washington County Extension.
