A new police officer has been installed in the city of Washington.  As part of last night’s City Council meeting, Mayor Sandra Johnson swore in Brett Johnson as a new officer.  His first day on the force will be Monday and he will attend the Police Academy in Camp Dodge in January.

Also at last night’s meeting the Council passed a resolution of the abatement of the collection of costs to the Washington County Treasurer.  The total abatement cost is $355 for two properties.  Another resolution was passed for the adoption of a safety manual.

The council has decided to purchase a sewer camera system and trailer at the cost of over $34,000 a year for three years.  These payments will not begin until the next fiscal year.

An application will also be filled out to apply for a grant to replace the north track crossing at North 4th Avenue.  The amount of this project is over $68,000.
