Southeast Iowa residents had a chance to meet a presidential hopeful yesterday.  Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum visited Sigourney as part of his “Courage to Fight for America” tour of Iowa.  Mr. Santorum hosted meet-and-greet sessions.

Those coming raised concerns about the current education system.  The Senator says the individuals who should be evaluating teachers should be parents, not the government and encourages more parental involvement.

After his visit in Sigourney, Mr. Santorum traveled to Fairfield and Wapello.  Staff members with the campaign say he is the first presidential candidate from outside of Iowa to visit all of Iowa’s 99 counties when he wrapped up his day in Maquoketa last night.

The former Republican Senator served from 1995 to 2007.
