Those wishing to buy a home for the first time have a chance at extra money to do so.  Charla Howard with Golden Crest Realty says during the month of December the Iowa Finance Authority (IFA) is offering up to $3500 toward down payment and closing costs.  She says this grant is only available until the end of the year or until the funds have been exhausted.

Howard says the person wanting this grant had to be a first-time buyer and meets the criteria of the IFA.

Howard says the government is trying to stimulate the first-time buyers into buying a home.  She adds to contact a participating lender right away to apply for this grant as the extra funds are not available after the first of the year.
