Washington County 4-H will have a beef weigh in on December 17th at the Kalona Sales Barn. The weights of cattle will be taken so winter growth can be measured at the County Fair. Amy Green 4-H Youth Coordinator, says there is a 6 cattle limit for weigh-ins, but only 3 cattle can be entered into the fair. She says this is usually a pretty busy event. Last year they had 271 cattle to weigh. They accept purebred and crossbred cattle for their market-beef show at the county fair. They will also be drawing DNA for Ak-Sar-Ben. Green says Washington County is one of the bigger areas for 4-H cattle events.
