The Washington County Board of Supervisors have approved the starting salary for the new county Engineer.  The starting salary will be just under $92,000 and the new engineer will be evaluated after six months to determine if the pay should be increased by ten thousand dollars.  The Supervisors will look at internal candidates first before looking for someone from outside of the department for filling the position.  Those applying need to be a licensed engineer in the state of Iowa.

Also at yesterday’s meeting, a final reading of an ordinance for the establishment of a countywide Local Option Sales and Services Tax was conducted.  The tax will take effect July first of next year.

Colleen Bean was appointed as the Oregon Township Clerk.  Bean replaces Tammy Blodgett and will serve until the end of 2014.
