Area high school seniors have an opportunity to go to college with a scholarship.  Washington County Extension 4-H Youth/Coordinator Amy Green says the Christina Hixson Award is available to high school seniors in each of Iowa’s 99 counties.  The Awards which were first given in 1995 are awarded to 100 seniors each year.

Green says these awards are designed to show Iowa State University’s commitment to the student potential that is present in various ways beyond the measures of class rank or test scores. The Christina Hixson program provides each student with a half-tuition grant.

The value of this grant is estimated at fourteen thousand dollars over eight semesters.  The grants are to be used at Iowa State University.

The applications are due by February first. If you would like more information on how to apply for these awards, contact the Washington County Extension.
