While New Year’s celebrations will be happening tonight, food safety is not on a lot of people’s minds. Jennine Wolf, Food Inspector for Washington County Environmental Health says the three most important things people need to remember should be hand washing, temperature, and making sure items are clean and sanitized. She says hand washing needs to be done between tasks and before you handle ready to eat foods like rolls, and vegetable trays.
The second thing she says is temperature. Your refrigerator should stay at 41 degrees or below to avoid food-borne illness. She says to avoid putting a large amount of food in the refrigerator since it can put the temperature in the danger zone which can cause bacteria to grow.
Wolf says you should clean surfaces and utensils between different types of foods. Wolf says the USDA has more tips on food safety at usda.gov.
