Tipton, IA – The Mid-Prairie boys and girls basketball teams both posted big road conference wins Tuesday night.
In games heard on KCII and KCIIradio.com, the Mid-Prairie girls opened the night by knocking off the previously unbeaten in conference Tigers 41-39 in overtime. The Golden Hawks shook off the slow offensive starts that have plagued them most of the season to jump out to a 13-4 lead midway through the first period. The Tigers climbed back in and sent the game to the locker room tied at 17. In the second half Mid-Prairie got aggressive off the dribble and again built a six point lead in the fourth quarter. With Mid-Prairie hanging on to a 38-35 lead with under a minute to go Tipton’s Taylor Doermann made a layup, was fouled, and completed the three point play to send the game to overtime. Points were at a premium in the extra frame, the only made shot from the floor was the game winner from Mid-Prairie’s Meghan Redlinger with 30 seconds remaining. Mariah Swartzentruber led Mid-Prairie with 10 points and had the key steal that set up Redlinger’s game winner. The Golden Hawks are now 2-3 overall and 2-1 in the Cedar Valley Conference.
The Mid-Prairie boys overcame a slow start to capture their first win of the season in Tipton Tuesday night 58-47. The Tigers led by seven early before the Golden Hawks rallied to take a slim 16-15 lead into the second eight minutes. The Golden Hawks got some breathing room in the second quarter behind hot shooting from Nick Stimson off the bench as he connected on three first half threes. Mid-Prairie went into the locker room leading 36-26 and would not look back in the second half with Tipton never able to get closer than seven. Mid-Prairie was led by Stimson off the bench who ended the night with four three’s and 15 points, Jamein Powell also had 11. Mid-Prairie is now 1-4 on the season and will next be in action Friday night in a doubleheader at Durant. Those games can be heard on KCII and KCIIradio.com.
