IMS ran it’s record to 2-0 on the young season, scoring an 89-72 win over conference rival Pekin Friday in Hillcrest Union. IMS exploded for a 27-14 first quarter, and led 35-16 with five minutes to play in the second period when Pekin climbed back into it. Aided by four IMS starters saddled with foul trouble on the bench, Pekin fought back, narrowing the margin to 39-32 by half-time. All-stater Trey Satthoff tallied 19 for Pekin in the half to keep the Panthers alive.

IMS came out of the locker room and was able to rebound for another 27-point quarter to re-gain the momentum and the lead 66-49 after three periods. The difference held up over the rest of the game, with IMS securing the win despite Chance Miller and Brian Hagedorn fouling out.

Brian Hagedorn scored nine, and Johnny Lackender tallied eight. Dallas Nye scored four points, Justin Boller hit two free throws and Hostetler added one. Satthoff led all scorers with 34 points.

IMS shot a blistering 72 percent from the floor while Pekin filled it up at 60 percent.

IMS coach Dwight Gingerich was pleased with the effort. “I really liked our energy and focus in this game, and our big guys asserted themselves wel in hte second halfl. Our guards had a outstanding game, and I thought our decision making and execution was much improved over our first game. This is a really good early-season win over a quality team.”
