The West Drainage Ditch in Kalona, which had its naming rights put up for auction on Ebay, will be put up for auction again on Thursday. The winning bidder for the naming rights wanted the name to be Baniku Kinshi Creek. They claimed the name was for a Japanese friend who wanted the creek to be named after her great-grandfather, but the name actually means Horse Meat Forbidden. After some investigation, Kalona officials traced the bid back to a PETA Investigator who had given false information when bidding on the creek. The name was rejected, not because the of the name itself, but because they could not accept a bid made with false information. The naming rights will be reposted on Ebay this Thursday with the proceeds from the auction going towards the Safe Walkways to School project. Any name that is suggested will have to be cleared by the Kalona government and the U.S. Board of Geographic names. KCII will bring you more information on this story when a name is chosen and accepted.
