Every Year, around 300 people die and 130,000 are injured while using a ladder. A lot of those are when homeowners are trying to hang Christmas Decorations. Stephanie Reilly with Ace and More in Washington gave us some advice for using a ladder around the house. She says the most important thing is to make sure the ladder is on a level surface, and the ground is solid and not gravel, rocks, or mulch. She says the loose ground usually gives way as soon as you get to the top of the ladder. She also reminds us to not carry the ladder upright. You can hit power lines and get the ladder caught on branches and end up falling. Her last piece of advice is to have someone with you when you’re using a ladder. They can hold the ladder to make sure its steady, and provide a second set of eyes for any silly mistakes, like not locking the ladder in place.
