Senator Tom Harkin has nominated some southeast Iowa students for appointments to military academies.  Senator Harkin has nominated Jesse Hahn from Ainsworth to the US Merchant Marine Academy.  He is a senior at Highland High School and the son of Ted and Teresa Hahn.

Nominated to the US Air Force Academy and US Naval Academy is Jackson Bell of Mt. Pleasant.  Bell is a senior at Mt. Pleasant High School and is the son of Richard and Martha Bell.

Senator Harkin says all individuals who are nominated have to show superior leadership, academic and athletic abilities.  He adds they must also display the necessary motivation for serving in the demanding role of a military career military officer as well as have an outstanding moral character.

Both Hahn and Bell are two of 42 from across the state to be nominated to the country’s military academies.  KCII will bring you more information as it becomes official if either student has been accepted into their respective academy.
