Wellman, IA – Mid Prairie is back on the mats in their first and only home duel of the season tonight when they host Tipton and West Liberty. Head coach Justin Garvey joined us on the PM Sports Page last night and talked about the chance for his team to wrestle in front of the home crowd in what should be a packed gym.
“It’s our first and only one of the season. The School is doing a ‘pack the gym night’ to fill up the gym and get all of the student body there. It’s a good duel for us. Tipton is kind of in their rebuilding stage like we are so numbers wise we’re kind of even there. Last year we lost a close duel to them. This year I don’t really know what to think of it yet. We’ve got some guys that are out right now so it might be kind of tough to win some duels. West Liberty, their traditionally a really tough wrestling school and they always have tough, hard-nosed wrestlers so we’re just getting ready for that and make sure the guys know this is the only chance for your home crowd to see you this year so you gotta make it worthwhile.”
The Tri-Duel begins at 6:30 as Tipton and West Liberty kick off the event. The Golden Hawks taking the mat in the final two matchups beginning with Tipton at about 7:30. Mid Prairie travels to Troy Mills this weekend as North Lynn High School hosts a day-long event. The JV tournament starts in the morning while the varsity roster weighs in for the afternoon event.
