Solon, IA – The Mid Prairie Golden Hawks travel to Solon tonight to finish off the first third of their season heading into the winter break. Coming off an overtime loss Tuesday at Clear Creek-Amana, the Golden Hawk girls try for their first non-conference win since 2009 as they look to even their record at 4-4 against the Spartans. Head coach Marc Pennington joined us on the PM Sports Page last night and said he expects a low scoring game and needs his girls to remain patient on offense.
“One thing about Solon is you know they’re gonna guard ya. Their gonna make things hard for you to score. This year they’re having a little more trouble scoring than they have in the past so you might see first one to thirty wins. Both teams have good athletes, both like to get up and down the floor, however, their kind of defensive minded so we’ve got to make sure we attack their pressure with some poise.”
The Mid Prairie boys are 1-6 entering tonight as they square off against their former conference rival. Head coach Don Showalter was on the PM Sports Page last night to talk about what his young team is looking for in an intense game heading to the break.
“We’re looking to go up there to make a statement that ‘hey, we are a young team but we’re improving and getting better’. That’s all we can ask of our kids. We’re making a solid effort to do that night in and night out.”
We’ll have the live double-header coverage of the Golden Hawks and Spartans rivalry on the court, tonight at 6:00 right here on KCII Radio and kciiradio.com.
