The Washington School Board met last night and heard a presentation from two foreign exchange students at the high school. The students from Ukraine and Kazakhstan shared the similarities and differences between their home countries and Washington as well as their classes at the high school. The students are in Washington as part of the Worldlink program.
The Board also heard from some ninth grade students who are part of the Virtual Reality Education Pathfinders (VREP). The students traveled to Ottumwa and learned how to create virtual reality projects and 3-D models and simulations. The funding for this program was made possible because of a grant from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation.
The board also approved to purchase a 3/4-ton two-wheel drive Chevy Surburban from Deery Brothers in Burlington for over $35,000. This will be used as an activity vehicle.
They also approved the School Improvement Advisory Committee recommendations of only taking children out of class in third grade and later as part of the Extended Learning Program. In addition, the board approved to leave students enrolled in the program until they graduate.
The Washington School Board met last night in the Junior High media center.
