Now that Christmas is over people are wondering what they can do with their live trees. ISU Extension Field Horticulture Specialist Patrick O’Malley says there are usually various outlets for getting rid of trees. Some people will put them outside for bird and small animal habitat or cut the branches for mulch for strawberries.
O’Malley says some county conservation centers accept trees to be turned into either mulch or under water habitats. He suggests contacting your county conservation office or your city hall first to know what ordinances they have on the disposal of Christmas trees.
