Washington, IA – It’s a busy night coming up tonight on the mats as every area wrestling team is in action, and other than Sigourney-Keota and Columbus Community who got 2012 started off on Tuesday, they’re all ready to get back to competition.

Washington hosts Ft. Madison tonight in their third annual Takedown Cancer event as the team looks to remain unbeaten in Duals this season as do individuals Parker Turner and Fletcher Green.  The club tonight is taking donations, they’re selling pink Takedown Cancer wrist bands and have a penny raffle as well, all to raise money for Relay for Life and University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.  The match gets underway at 6:30 tonight.  The Demons will also be honoring the youth wrestlers prior to the meet.

Mid Prairie hits the mats with their 4-2 dual record in Fairfield against the Trojans and will face off against Keokuk as well.  Head coach Justin Garvey said it will be a good test against unfamiliar foes.  “This is our first year to dual Fairfield and Keokuk in a long time.  Fairfield is in our district this year so it’s going to be good to see some of those guys, and Keokuk is a bigger 3A school so they’ll have plenty of talent too.”  Sophomore Phirom Peterschmidt (145) is 15-5 in duals this year; freshman Josh Murphy (106) is 13-6.  Both will have key matches for the Golden Hawks tonight.

Columbus Community travels to Muscatine to square off against the Muskies, New London, and WMU.

Highland hosts Wapello, West Burlington, and Notre Dame.  The Huskies will try to right the ship after dropping to 3-6 before winter break.  Travis Cole (113) and Jess Hahn (132) look to remain unbeaten as they try to improve on their 9-0 dual record.

Lone Tree is home against Waco and West Branch.  The Lions won 3-of-4 duals to end the first half of the season as freshman standout Alex Yedlik (145) posted a 10-2 record.  Waco lost 4-of-5 to finish 2011 at 2-5.  They’ll look for another strong performance from Kevin Anderson (145) who is set to square off against the aforementioned Alex Yedlik in what is sure to be a great match.
