The Washington Demons basketball team held a special fundraising event last weekend. Angie Leyden, Washington Athletic Booster member says this was the third year of the Coaches versus Cancer events. She says Coach Phil Long started holding this event as a way to involve the American Cancer Society because of many local families affected by cancer.
Leyden says during the events, there were different half-time activities, 50-50 raffles, a silent auction as well as some of the boys basketball players who shaved their heads at the end of the evening. All of the events brought in over $7000. The proceeds raised are going to The American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Washington County.
