It was a great atmosphere at Washington High School last night for their third annual Takedown Cancer event but the Demons struggled to win several close matches, falling to Ft. Madison 42-10. Fletcher Green, Joe Smith, and Kyle Collier picked up the only three wins for Washington. The event featured an introduction of the youth wrestlers and several JV matches in front of a packed house. Demon coach Brent Van Wheeldon said the support was great, the result was not.
“The crowd was huge. Both sides on the bottom (of the stands) were full. There were people up top, so there was a lot of people supporting cancer night which was great to see. Too bad we didn’t wrestle a little better. There were 10 or 11 matches decided by one or two points and we lost nine or 10 of them so we’ve got to do a little bit better than that.”
The Bloodhounds picked up three wins by fall from Nicholas Otte, Trent Johnson, and Chris Berg. The Demons are back in action tomorrow as Highland hosts the Gary Curtis Invitational. (full results listed below)
