The ISU Extension will host a heifer clinic in Richland on February 7th. The clinic is an effort to increase the number of cattle in Iowa, says Byron Leu, the organizor of the event, because cattle numbers in the state have been dropping for the past few years. Iowa used to have upwards of a million cattle, now the number is more like 800,000. The focus of the clinic will be about technologies and systems that can be used to make raising heifers more cost effective. Registration is required by February 1st so they can prepare enough materials. The class will take place at the Keokuk County Veterinary Clinic at 6pm.
