The Iowa Department of Transportation wants to pass along information on how they update their road information. IDOT’s Winter Operations Administrator Annette Dunn says they use a variety of resources to gather their information besides reports from law enforcement. She says they have roadside cameras which provide a better view of road conditions as well as road sensors that are equipped to detect pavement temperatures.
She says they also rely on weather reports to monitor any storm conditions. Road reports from other states are used to assist motorists who may be traveling to that particular state and reports from IDOT maintenance personnel are important because they are actually on the roads.
