The West Ditch in Kalona, which had its naming rights put up for auction, has a final name set to be approved. Salvesen Creek was the name chosen by the winning bidder, and that name has already been approved by the City Council. The naming rights were bought for $3,750 and the bidder chose the name in honor of her husband’s family. It will still have to be approved by other agencies before the name becomes official.

They expect it to take about two months before the naming is final. The naming right were put up for auction once before, but the name was rejected because the bidder used false information.

That bidder’s chosen name meant Horse Meat Forbidden in Japanese, but when the city council found out the bid was made by a PETA Investigator with false information the name was rejected.
