Washington has been given a $50,000 grant from Main St. Iowa. The Main St. Iowa Program is an organization that provides funding to towns in Iowa for building renovation. The grant received on Saturday is going to be used to renovate the properties at 210-212 on South Marion Avenue. This grant will provide funding for the first of multiple stages of renovation to the block where there are currently three collapsed structures.
Main St. Washington was one of 9 Main St. Programs in Iowa to receive a grant at this event. Senator Harkin and Governor Branstad, both strong supporters of the program, spoke at the Botanical Gardens in Des Moines.
