The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks swept a double header Tuesday night in Wellman, knocking off the Durant Wildcats in both ends of the Coaches vs Cancer festivities. In the girls contest Durant made an effort to take the air out of the basketball but Mid-Prairie took a 37-23 decision over the Wildcats. The Golden Hawks leaned on their defense again, holding Durant without a field goal for a 10 minute stretch to take a 13-8 lead into the break. Mid-Prairie turned up the defensive pressure and put Durant away with a late 4th quarter run, scoring the final 8. The Golden Hawks were led by Mallory McArtor with 10 pts. With the win Mid-Prairie stands at 10-1 in the Cedar Valley Conferenace and 11-4 overall. The Golden Hawks have won 10 of their last 11 games including eight straight.

The Mid-Prairie boys cancelled out an eight game losing streak by finishing off Durant in a 51-46 win Tuesday night. Mid-Prairie led wire to wire including starting the game on a 9-2 run. The Golden Hawks had a 29-17 lead going into the locker room and the lead still stood at 12 entering the 4th quarter. Behind Von and Vance Glazer the Wildcats mounted a charge cutting the Mid-Prairie lead to 41-40 midway through the 4th, but the Golden Hawks finished out the win with key defensive stops and pressure free throws from Ryan Hoffman and Reid Miller. Mid-Prairie was led on the night by Jaemin Powell’s 14 points. Mid-Prairie now stands at 2-12 overall and 2-8 in the Cedar Valley Conference.
