Wellman, IA – Mid Prairie faces two tough conference opponents as they look to make history on the mats tonight. Mid Prairie hits the road for a double-dual against West Branch and Wilton, and if taking on the top two teams in the conference wasn’t enough motivation, The Golden Hawks are trying to make school history by tying the single-season dual record. Head coach Justin Garvey talked about that on the PM Sports Page last night.

“You know, we’ve talked about it.  It’s kind of been the whispers in the hallway and in the locker room these past couple weeks, nobody really knowing for sure what the number was.  Some people said it was five, ultimately the superintendent went and asked the old wrestling coach, Mr. Jim Cayton, who’s the principle at Kalona Elementary and he said it was seven.  So that’s the number and the kids are really fired up about it.”

The Golden Hawks have their work cut out for them tonight against two of the top teams in the area.

“This West Branch meet is going to be a tough one.  West Branch and Wilton will both be there and right now they’re the cream of the crop in the conference, they’re right there neck and neck.  We probably don’t have the horses to compete with them at every weight class but we’ll take our wins where we can.  This is kind of a stepping stone into the conference tournament to see exactly where my guys are at.”

The Golden Hawks head to the Solon Invitational on Saturday.
