The Washington School Board held their monthly meeting last night and during the meeting they heard from a representative from the University of Iowa wanting to do a study related to asthma in children.  Patrick O’Shaughnessy with the College of Public Health is requesting support from the school district to do this study of different factors in a rural community that can cause asthma.  He says if a grant is received, he will be working with the school district as well as Mid-Prairie and Keota School Districts along with IMS for this study.

The Board also discussed fundraising efforts for the 1918 building.  They approved a tradition and tomorrow capital campaign project where alumni, retired teachers and other staff members can donate money toward different projects.

They accepted an alternate bid for an energy grant as well to be used in the remodeling of the 1918 building.  This grant will cover the cost of replacing the hot water heater and associated systems and for new light fixtures in the building.
