The Washington City Council is in the midst of their budget process and City Administrator Brent Hinson says there are many challenges ahead.  He says one of the challenges he and the Council is facing is to bring the city budget out of a negative status by the end of June 2013.  Hinson says they are hoping to bring the General Fund balance to 130-thousand dollars and a long-term goal of 900-thousand.

He notes that amount is part of 3.6 million dollars in operating expenditures.  Hinson says the Departments have done a great job in presenting a good budget for their departments resulting in a .25 of a percent increase.

The City Council will continue to hold meetings related to the budget so the city will ready for the next fiscal year which starts in July.
