The Washington City Council met last night and held several discussions as part of their meeting. Lengthy discussion was held for the Wellness Park process and organization.  The Council approved the forming of a committee to explore steps for the making of this park.  The committee members will be chosen during the next Council meeting.

A request to close 3rd Street by Stewart Elementary on May 19th was presented and approved.

Marde McConnell and Linda Varney with the Washington Tree Committee also presented their annual report.  Varney shared in the report that Washington was recognized as a Tree City for 21 years, and more than 125 trees was given away in the spring.  She adds that the trees have already been ordered for this year’s tree give away and a grant has been received for a massive tree planting with the Fair Board to take place this year.  A presentation was given to the city as the 2011 Volunteer of the Year for their work with the Tree Committee.

Fire Department officers for this year were announced last night as well.  The Officers for this year will be Tom Wide as Chief, Craig Rembold as 1st Assistant Chief, Jim Williams and 2nd Assistant Chief and Tom Beuchamp as the Secretary/Treasurer.
