The next general signup period for the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) has been announced. Bill Bartenhagen, Executive Director of the Washington County FSA Office says the CRP program is sponsored by the US Department of Agriculture and sets aside areas of farm land to return it to a type of cover crop such as grassland, native grass or tree projects.

Bartenhagen says contracts can run from 10 to 15 years depending on the practice.  He notes currently in Washington County there is a little over 40,000 acres that are part of the CRP program.  The general sign up will last from March 12th through April 6th.  For more information, visit this link.
