Thursday night Danville showed southeast Iowa why they are in fact ranked #1 in class 1A. In a match up of unbeatens, Danville ended Keota’s season in Burlington 55-25.
Danville opened the game on an 11-0 run before Keota would score six straight to get back into it. Keota struggled all night against the Danville pressure defense, trailing 18-6 entering the second quarter, Keota suffered through a seven minute drought that ended with a Casey Sieren tip in. During the same time frame Danville went on a 13-0 run, the first nine points of which came from Steven Soukup to take a 30-10 lead into halftime.

The second half saw more suffocating Danville defense, allowing the Bears to break the 35 point margin midway through the final frame to enact a continuous clock. Danville was led in scoring by Steven Soukup with 23 points; Keota was led by Casey Sieren’s 13.

With the win Danville improves to 24-0 on the year and will face Wayne of Corydon Saturday night in Ottumwa with a trip to the state tournament on the line. Keota ends their season at 23-1 after posting the schools first undefeated regular season since 1993 and a 4th consecutive South Iowa Cedar League Championship.
