The Washington girls’ basketball season came to an end Saturday night, losing to Keokuk in the regional semifinals by a final of 48-44.  The Demons (18-5) took a 22-14 lead at the half and led by as many as 12 early in the third quarter but were outscored 16-7 in the final quarter as the Chiefs (17-6) won for the first time in three meetings this season.

Washington ran into foul trouble with four players finishing the game with four fouls; Keokuk had their troubles as well in a physical game that ended up being decided by free throws.

Syndey Greiner led the Demons in scoring with 12 and was joined in double figures by Lauren Vittetoe’s 10 as Washington falls short of their fourth-straight regional final appearance.

Keokuk’s balanced offensive attack was led by Rachel Dunlap who scored 13, nine from the free throw line, and the Chiefs scored 21 of their 48 points from the line on the night.

Keokuk will face top-ranked Benton on Tuesday night following their 54-38 win over Oskaloosa.  The game will be held in Washington.
