The details into last weekend’s accident that killed two people from Wellman have been released by the Iowa State Patrol.  According to the report, the 1997 Toyota Avalon driven by Mickey Murray was traveling northbound on Ivy Avenue SW in Johnson County approaching Deer Creek, lost control and entered the west ditch.  He then collided with the southern edge of the concrete box culvert, jumping over the creek bed and had the driver’s side strike the northern box culvert wall.

Murray’s car then rolled over the culvert wall and came to rest facing east on the north side of the creek.  Both Murray and his wife Julie had to be extricated from the vehicle.  Mickey was pronounced dead at the scene and Julie was transported to University of Iowa Hospitals who later died.

Injured and released from the hospital was their daughter Nicole.  Those responding to the scene were the Iowa State Patrol, Johnson County Medical Examiner and Johnson County Ambulance Service.
