The Public Works Director of Kalona, Mike Bowlin, resigned at the city council meeting on Monday. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says Bowlin is looking to explore other opportunities. He took some time off in the previous week to talk it over with his family and the city supports his decision and wishes him their best. For now, Schlabaugh says they will split up the duties among the employees they have as they decide what the next step will be. Schlabaugh will take over the management of that department. He says in the next 30 to 60 days they will look at whether to hire a new Public Works Director from inside or outside the department.
