National Guard Education Funding Passed

Posted By Community On @ 6:23 am In Today's Local News | Comments Disabled

As previously reported, the National guard announced that they would have to cut the financial aid given to its members from 90% to 50%. The Senate Appropriations Committee unanimously agreed that they would re-appropriate $1.3 million in funding to help fund financial aid to the guardsmen who need it. The bill was signed by Governor Terry Branstad yesterday and is now official. National Guardsmen who are enrolling in a college education program will receive funding at the level it had been in the past.

Senator Sandy Greiner says she supports the funding for the National Guardsmen, and thinks its a bi-partisan issue that not many were opposed to, as proven by the unanimous vote for the bill in the Senate. The $1.3 million in funding will allow the National Guard to continue to pay 90% of tuition in the next school year.
